Funny monsters, vibrant design.
Calf2Cow
This illustration was commissioned by Calf2Cow Theatre, a company that creates stories in unconventional spaces and locations.
The illustration depicts the scene where the young hero from Pokeytin confronts the fearsome Jabberwocky, a monster that has been terrorizing the village. The illustration captures the humor, adventure, and fantasy of the play, which is a hilarious new adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s famous poem The Jabberwocky. The illustration uses vibrant colors, dynamic shapes, and expressive characters to convey the mood and tone of the play. The illustration was used for the poster, flyer, and online promotion of the play, which toured various outdoor venues in the summer of 2023. The play received positive reviews from critics and audiences, who praised the creativity, energy, and fun of the production.
All in all, we are a bonkers riotous theatre company, that likes to be really stupid, but tells great stories at the same time. We also play lots of live music, what’s folky rock n roll.
Riff with the idea of the Jaws movie poster (homage to monster flicks) – the beast rising from the depths!
The horned head of the monster overshadows the design (and doubles as a hill), it rises from the bottom of the design. Its jaws are wide open with sharp teeth, fork tongue and flames exhaled. Inside its mouth, all the missing things – cow, corn, washing (clothes), oysters. At the summit of the beast’s head, the village of Pokeytin. Our young hero is pictured walking down the slope to slay the beast (with his sword in hand). But look closely at the fearsome beast and you’ll notice a tear rolling down its cheek…is it the fearsome beast we are led to believe?
In the background, we see musical notes rising, maybe a bucket of water, guitar etc…elements of the performance. The title appears at the top, it will embody the spirit of the play (and theatre company).
The final piece is a harmonious blend of character portrayal and thematic elements from “The Little Prince.” It encapsulates not just visual appeal but also narrates an untold chapter – inviting audiences into a world where every star is a story waiting to unfold.
